Let It Be - Day 13 The reason why we sail

Yesterday proved to us why we sail and why Yachtsmen are the bunch they are. We had been having alarm issues when starting our engine for a day or so. Yesterday at about 1230 UTC our alternator told us it was the cause and promptly stopped working. The thought of not being able to generate power did not sit well with the distance still in front of us. We had earlier been talking on VHF to the yacht Wind of Gothenberg who seemed the only boat for miles. The skipper made a call again to them stating our problem and rather in jest asked if they happened to have a spare alternator!! Yes came the reply and to our absolute amazement it was a direct replacement. The Yacht Wind of Gothenberg consulted skipper and crew we were offered the part and they made way towards us. Meeting in the middle of this vast ocean to be given a brand new alternator was somewhat surreal. Our dinghy was launched and crewman Jerry( chief baker and engineer) was cast off on a line to effect the handover- one alternator to us one bottle of wine to them -as a token of thanks( until we reach St Lucid) The alternator was fitted and we were on our way. We the crew on Let It Be would like all to know just how grateful and indebted we are to The Wind of Gothenberg for their help and generosity.
