Ocean Safety Man Over Board Recovery Demonstration

At our annual Bluewater Sailing Weekend Alistair Hackett from marine safety experts Ocean Safety was invited to give a demonstration of the JonBuoy Recovery Module - one of their most popular lifesaving innovations. The Jonbuoy is designed to simplify the process of saving a crew member that has fallen overboard. It increases their visibility and buoyancy, helping to keep the casualty safe while rescue takes place. Watch the video to see a full demonstration of the Jonbuoy in action.

Ocean Safety has teamed up with World Cruising to select a range of safety equipment you will be required to carry based on the rally regulations, at exclusive member rates. To liaise with our team in regards to your safety requirements and preferential rate, please contact [email protected] or call +44 (0) 23 80 720 800

Radio Communications at Sea – It’s good to talk

Staying connected is important both for safety of boats at sea and for the social interaction between crews that adds another level to the enjoyment of sailing offshore. During ocean stages of our rallies there are daily SSB (HF) radio nets, which are a mix of safety messages, discussions on weather and routing, and social contact between the boat crews.

Communications Equipment

We require boats in all our offshore rallies to have communications equipment capable of sending and receiving emails whilst at sea. This can be via satellite telephone (Iridium, Inmarsat) or via SSB radio with a pactor modem. For advice on different equipment types, refer to your rally handbook, or visit Mailasail.com for impartial advice.
