Adina - Birchers is best on ADINA

Day 7 - 25/11/23, 19 30N, 24. 25W

We left last Sunday (19/11/23) in very light headwinds but after a few hours of running the engine we settled into a broad reach. As the wind moved north and we have travelled south and are now running downwind with the Genoa poled out wing on wing. This provides good downwind speed but also provides a roll, making sleeping difficult.

The crew are all well and agree that currently Bircher is the food of choice for breakfast, closely followed by bacon sandwiches as long as Andy H does not try to fry the bacon in white wine vinegar!
Andrew remains focused on sail plans whilst Carole considers the benefits and practicalities of roasting pistachio nuts for her great salads. Pete continues to knock up excellent side dishes to accompany the precooked meals we vacuum packed and froze in Las Palmas.

The fishing team have (so far) failed to deliver so need to work harder. However, our fabulous vessel Adina is not missing out, by delivering four flying fish on her decks over the last couple of nights. A special mention is also needed for the fifth member of the crew ‘Lucy’ - the Hydrovane - who has effortlessly steered a perfect course for days without even a murmur of complaint.

There have also been a number of wonderful wildlife encounters ranging from a turtle on Day 1, various birds and flying fish, to an hour long display from a large pod of about 30 dolphins yesterday which included synchronised leaping and back flips.

We are all having fun - enjoying the sunshine - and now that the butter is starting to melt we are starting to think about heading west. Still well over 2000 miles to our destination so the adventure is only really just beginning.
