Glorious sun and light winds as the fleet set off from Povoa to Figueira

Very light easterly winds and a glorious morning sun greeted the fleet for the start of their 75-mile trip down the coast to the 3rd stopover on Rally Portugal 2012, Figueira da Foz.

The boats made a very peaceful site as they slowly sailed over the line together at 0700 local time, some flying assymetrics to help them along. This leg from Povoa to Figueira is one of the longest on the rally, and the boats are expected to arrive at their destination at the end of day.

The forecast for today is for the winds to remain light until lunchtime, before they should pick up to a more constant force 3-4 northwesterly breeze in the early afternoon.

The crews have enjoyed their few days in Povoa de Varzim, eaten well, rested and been on an interesting tour inland to Porto. Tonight, Figueira da Foz marina restaurant is preparing a feast of local sardines for the crews so they can tuck into a good meal on arrival only metres from their berths!
