World ARC Cruising in Australia

After exploring Mackay with the help and support of The Mackay Region, the World ARC fleet have been on a free cruising period for a bit over two weeks.

Enjoying the many delights of the Whitsunday Islands and cruising Queensland’s Coral Coast. This popular Australian sailing destination is a fantastic area and as the local pilot book says, is “100 Magic Miles” of idyllic coastline. Yachts continue enjoying visiting beautiful beaches, islands, and some of the marinas.

This part of the world is so interesting to sail through, so many little pretty islands, good wind, great weather, and perfect temperature! Sweet Dream

The passage North from Cairns includes rounding Cape York, the most northerly tip of Australia, crossing the Gulf of Carpentaria before entering the Arafura Sea and the port of Darwin. Yachts are expected in Darwin between the 31st of August and the 2nd of September.

Darwin has much to offer to visiting yachtsman, with plenty of exciting tours and excursions of the Northern Territory. Nearby a UNESCO World Heritage, Centre Kakadu National Park is well worth a two day trip, and closer at hand is Litchfield National Park. Darwin itself is a vibrant city, known as a tropical melting pot of food and culture that reflects its close proximity to Asia.
