World ARC 2019-20 Arrive Down Under

The World ARC 2019-20 fleet have all arrived in Australia and in doing so they have completed the first half of their circumnavigation. With perfect trade winds of 15-20kts, the fleet experienced a fast 1,200 NM crossing from Port Vila in Vanuatu to Mackay Marina taking just 5-6 days to complete the route.

After an exhilarating sail, skipper Bence Horvath on family Niobe, the Amel 50, said “it was the best sail of my life and we covered over 170NM in 24hrs which is a record for us.”

Mackay Marina offers a great stopover location with excellent facilities and local support enabling crews to enjoy time on land and explore the nature and rich heritage of the region.

Participants are looking forward to experiencing a full programme of events to include sundowners at the Clarion Hotel, an early morning tour to Cape Hillsborough to see wallabies on the beach and attend the Prizegiving Dinner for Leg 7.

Congratulations to all the fleet for completing their Pacific crossing and reaching a big milestone in their round the world adventure.
