Wings - Sat night / Sunday morning

Crossed the line a bit ago.  Trekked down to Spanish Town and are tucked-in at VGYH.  Working hard to let our guard completely down in the form of Dark and Stormies.  Really looking forward to raising a glass or two with all the Carib 1500 fleet in Nanny Cay next week.  It's been a great experience! Anonymous Howard, Dave, Tommy, Bob & Pat.. read more...

Wings - Sat. morning, Nov. 9

Wings Blog, Sat. morn , Nov 9  The winds returned about 3:00 a.m. this morning, certainly adequate, but far diminished from earlier in the week -- now about 15 knots or so.  Beautiful morning -- hot and sunny. Despite the calm yesterday, it seemed like it was the longest day of the sail so far.  We got a lot done.  The swimming pool locker is now empty of water -- and for awhile, was also emptied of all the stuff inside.  Dave and Tommy found everything in there but Jimmy Hoffa -- we even found two fold-up lawn chairs, despite the lack of a lawn on a sailboat.  The locker is now clean and everything neatly stowed inside. All day yesterday and through most of the night, Howard was able to keep the water-maker working; apparently, it's gone on-the-fritz again. read more...

Wings - Wings Blog - Friday morning, Nov. 8

Wings Blog for Friday morning, Nov. 8 Quick update:  Weather is sunny and hot -- beautiful day.  Very little wind and what there is of it is "on the nose."  The boat has a laundry air about it -- wet towels and clothes are hanging out to dry all over the place. So, we're taking this opportunity to clean up a bit -- Dave and Tommy are finishing pumping out the swimming pool locker.  Howard and Dave are getting the water-maker back up and running.  I got some "work" work done.  And we're keeping an eye on the Auto-Pilot, which apparently pulled a "Hal" on us (from 2001, A Space Odyssey),  achieved consciousness in the past few hours and starting charting it's own course for us.  This development dawned on us when we noticed that the sun was. read more...

Wings - Wings Blog -- Thursday

Thursday morning, Nov. 7   It's 8:30 and, at last, the weather has calmed down.  We're currently running before a 15 knot wind; the sun is shining and the sea is reasonably calm. Dave is depressed that we've lost the high winds and the big waves that gave us our  speed over the last 3 days.  On the other hand, two members of the crew  (who shall remain Anonymous) are delighted to be able to move around the boat without being catapulted across the cabin, wrecking themselves and the boat. As we write, Howard and Dave are trying to fix the jib.  Tommy is at the helm, and the boat is riding smoothly.  It just goes to show how much better humans are than autopilots. This morning, in celebration of calm seas, Pat decided to cook a huge amount of. read more...
