Turbo's Tub - We have made it!

On Wednesday November 15th, 2012 at 3pm we pulled into the Bluff House Marina on Green Turtle Cay.  Our final destination!  26 degrees 46 minutes N, 77 degrees 21 minutes W. We technically pulled into the Abacos on Tuesday morning at 9:30 am.  But the approach through the west end begins through some shallow shoals and sandbars, so we didn't actually see land until much later in the day.  We saw signs of life (a few houses, an anchored boat or two) but never saw an actual human until Wednesday when a couple of Bahamians passed us on a small fishing skiff. We anchored behind a tiny Cay on Tuesday night, and enjoyed a feast of beef tenderloin and a fresh vegetable medley that had survived the voyage in the bottom of the boat refrigerator.  And then we. read more...

Turbo's Tub - First night in the Bahamas

Although they have not reached land or civilization yet, the crew on Turbo’s Tub is very excited to have reached the Bahamas.  As of last night, they were anchoring in protected waters, enjoying a great dinner and could all go to sleep at the same time.  They were about 30 miles from Green Turtle Cay.  At daybreak, they would pull anchor and set sail for Green Turtle Cay, where the other boats and ARC Bahamas crew would be waiting on them.  The ARC Bahamas has a special dinner planned for tonight and I am certain the crew will be happy to step foot on solid ground.  They should arrive around lunch time or early afternoon.  Mike & Michael will head for the airport tomorrow and arrive back in Norfolk late tomorrow night.  Hutch and Capt Turbo. read more...

Turbo's Tub - Oh, the Places You'll Go!

I don't know about you, but I wait patiently for the updates on the www.Carib1500.com website showing the current location of Turbo's Tub. It appears that as of the last update, they should be seeing those crystal clear waters of the Bahamas any time now. The look to be about 10 miles from entering the western end of the Bahamas. I am certain they will be happy to see land. It also looks like they will be joining up with T'ai Chi again to make their journey through the Abacos into Green Turtle Cay. I bet that Rum Punch waiting for them at the dock will be the best Rum Punch they have ever enjoyed.I spoke to them yesterday afternoon and they sounded great. It has been a long journey and something they will not forget. They have come a long way from a crazy idea to sail 800+ miles (when we. read more...

Turbo's Tub - We're sailors, not fisherman

For the 3rd straight day the fish have eluded us!!  We've snagged several fish on our hook, but can't seem to get them in the boat.  Usually we drag them around for awhile and then when they get about 25 yards off the back of the boat we see them do a leap out of the water, and then they are gone.  We've tried setting the hook fast and reeling them in quickly.  We've tried trying to tire them out and then drag them in, but neither is working.  The bigger fish are gigantic. They look like Tuna to us and  I would guess 3' long, and that's not a fisherman's story.  We've snagged a few smaller mahi-mahi, maybe 10-15 lbs, but haven't gotten them in the boat either.  We had one right on the stern and somehow Michael and I managed to leave him in the. read more...
