Windswept - Rock me Windswept!

Windswept's blog post to the tune of Wagon Wheel!Sailing out west to the land of the 'gators. Getting frustrated, want tokick the generator. Staring at the sea, hoping I don't see mast lights. We made it half way in 86 hours, catching flying fish and taking noshowers. Hoping for the moon so I can see my way tonight. So crank that winch and speed up the keel. Drunk on rum punch is how Iwant to feel. Hey...my boat's a rockin'! Rock me Windswept like the windand the waves, rock me Windswept in a westbound haze. Hey...Windsweptrock me.Meredith's cooking dinner, Shawn's at the helm, Carol's reading booksand Terry's always snoozing. We kept checking fishing lines, nothing tobe found. No fish, no rum keep getting me down, but we loved flipperplaying up on our bow. Next week I'm turning back to. read more...

Windswept - The aproach to land

Not Promised or deserved But EnjoyedThe weather on our last day to Tortola has been great. Most of the day has been spent beam reaching at 7 knots at 20 degrees. We did have several squalls with heavy gusts and rain with mixed ups seas. After the calm of one it was shower time in the calm. The day did have its challenges, the generator lost its and we worked in hot diesel fume bouncing conditions for several hours trying to bleed it.We finally gave up on the generator and started the engine to charge the batteries. Made a grand nacho for a late lunch, early super. And even caught another fish. What a great last day only 15 miles to go and in before the marina closes done. Capt’n Sonny Good ByeIMG_20141114_162017. read more...

Windswept - The final DAY

Our Final day at seaAfter 10 days at sea our TTG reads only Hours and Minutes. Some of the crew are really ready to touch shore. Our fuel should make it in.We ran our port tank out this morning and then hand pumped the last 2 inches over to the starboard tank. Now we have 7 inches in it.How long that last will depends on who you ask.I say we can sell fuel when we get to the dock someone else is convinced we will be out any time now and never get in.Very few napping today everyone is keeping busy, Fishing, calculating fuel consumption, navigating shorter routes and just looking and watching the DTW to go down. That is like watching for a pot to boil.It is beautiful day sunny, a 8-10 knot east wind and only gentle swells. We could Sail at 3-4 knots but we are motor sailing at 6-7 instead, while. read more...

Windswept - A day near the finish 275 left

----A day near the finish 275 leftWe are still trudging away the last few days were only 116, 117, 130 miles a day and not always in the direction of our final destination. At time it has been a struggle to keep the moral up, but with some effort it has worked out.The morning started out with 3 squalls in 3 hours and wind in every direction. It was early but we worked hard and took advantage of all the wind with numerous tacks. The day calmed down and we even but a Mia in the fridge.Sea food Alfredo was our evening delight. We should have just enough fuel left to make it to Tortola if the promised wind does not come.So we will know that we are there when we are out of fuel. For now we have 6 knot winds exactly on the nose.. read more...
