Walkabout - Walkabout - WOW - We're going to Grenada - Day 1 Mindelo to Grenada

N15:17.1 W26:39.2

We are off!! It was a busy day yesterday - both before we left and once we got sailing. There were still plenty of jobs on the To Do list before we set off, but I think we got everything done. Lots of farewells and hugs on the pontoons before we left. And a special present from Heiki and Sheryl on Zelda - one of their very successful fishing lures - hope we can put it to good use. We haven’t had the line out yet - it has all just been a bit busy.

We had time before the start to get all lines & fenders sorted, and decide our preferred line over the start - we went for the southern, committee boat end and crossed about a minute after the gun. Hopefully there may be some pics of us on the World Cruising Club website or Facebook page - check them out.

Then it all got busy!! Within the first 2 hours we had used virtually all of our sail combinations! As we tried to find decent wind and a good heading. We put up our G1 asymmetric, then took it down and put up the Blue Water Runner. We used that in butterfly mode and also Code Zero mode. We had the Genoa in and out like the Hokey Cokey. Same with the main - full, reef1, reef2, dropped and back again.

It was hard work, and very hot and sweaty. Showers were required. Then just as it was getting dark, the decision was made to make another change for overnight, and back up went the G1. That was a great decision. We have made great progress overnight (we think). It has all been quite stable, not much roll, and we have been able to sleep in our cabin in the bow as the boat isn’t bouncing around too much. We have both managed to get some sleep, which is good

The weather forecast has led to many boats heading SW. This is to avoid a big wind hole to the west in a couple of days. Hopefully it pays off. Just more miles to sail! Ade&Bev’s routing updates have been fab.

We had a bit of rain yesterday, and it is a very grey morning today - no sunrise to be seen. But very warm and humid.

For dinner we had beef stew with potatoes and beans (this will appear on the menu a few times - we have quite a lot in the fridge). Followed by - fruit - we still have plenty!!

Looking forward to a more relaxed day today, as we continue to make our way SW. May get the fishing gear out…

Love A&Tx
