Well.....not exactly!
As we make our way down to the Cape Verde islands we are looking out for turtles and dolphins, and even though this is a known "hot spot" for various whales we didn't think we'd actually see one...
Yet suddenly around midday, on our starboard side there was a large spout of water. We continued our course which happened to be towards where we saw the spouting, and gradually an enourmous Sperm Whale made itself apparent right next to our cockpit. We were close enough to see its brownish grey, wrinkly skin, its "knuckles" down the end of its back towards its tail, and the droplets of water gracefully pouring off its tail as it lifted it out of the water. With one last breath of air raised its tail and disappeared without a splash into the deep blue sea. Wonderful!
