Disco Inferno 3 - Day 4 - Finally moving again

Boat Position: 18 38.1N 20 31.6W
Boat Time: 1214
Heading: 214
Wind Speed: 10.3knots
Wind Direction: 029
Boat Speed: 5.3knots
Sail Configuration: Full Mainsail & Masthead Spinnaker
Miles to StLucia: 2346

Yesterday afternoon was the most painful experience, the boatspeed was 0knots for around 4 hours.  After lunch the spinnaker came down, the jib came out, the jib went away, the spinnaker went up, the spinnaker came down, then we sat with just the mainsail until 6pm when we hoisted the spinnaker again and we have now been gliding along ever since.  So it was a pretty busy afternoon in the heat.  Now everyone is very happy as we have around 10knots of breeze.

When the positions came in yesterday we dropped around 40 places in the rankings as most boats would have motored in the light airs.  We heard one boat on the radio this mornning saying he motored for 15 minutes and then said actually 4 hours!! lol

Matt has been looking at the weather and for those of just looking at our route I should explain there is a low pressure weather system hitting the Canaries today and heading down to the Cape Verdes, the boats to the north should be experiencing 30 -35knots of head winds today which is why we're heading so far south to avoid that and to get better wind to eventually take us west.

The frustration of yesterday has passed and the cold beers were greatly appreciated before dinner.  The smell of fresh bread this morning was also very pleasant, I better get on now and prepare lunch.

Thats all from us for now, thanks for stopping by & stay classy!
Lizzie
