Salamander - Fredrik - Why am I doing ARC 2022?

I was raised by the sea and have always loved boating, being in the sea and around the sea.

The past few years I have moved from motor boating to sailing, but I don't yet have my own boat. Last May we geared up for sailing from Stavanger to Shetland. Unfortunately the trip was cancelled due to weather conditions. That ignited a spark for a longer sailing trip, preferably blue ocean without me fully understanding the implications of such a trip.

I would like to sail around the world at some point in my own boat together with my own family. Doing the ARC is a first pass at understanding whether this is a realistic dream or not. It is also a test on how I handle being off the grid.

I'm grateful that I am allowed to do this trip by my wife and children, as this is a long time away from home. I am also grateful to be part of such an exciting journey onboard the Salamander with great people around me!
