Lomvi - Day 1 and 2 - Back in Neptun's dojo!

Brave lovers of the ocean!

We have concluded our first day at sea of the looooong crossing from Cape Verde to Grenada. 2200 nautical miles. We expect to arrive some time before Christmas this year.

Remember how smooth sailing was from Las Palmas to Cape Verde? Working hypothesis is that it was only to trick those sitting on the fence regarding their participation on leg two, to believe ocean sailing is only sun, calm seas and banana pancakes.

Conditions right now are not the complete opposite, but definitely on the other end of the pleasure scale. 11 to 16 s/m of wind and 2 to 4 meters waves with periods down to 7 seconds. For those of you not familiar with the meteorological terms we have acquired lately, it is a rollercoster out here.

We do prefer calmer conditions, but the boat is performing really well and averaging 6 knots, under our very conservative load on the rig. Big reef in the genoa and a tiny bit of main for stability.

We did visit all the voodoo doctors we could find in Cape Verde to make sure non of us were haunted by the gost of seasickness. So far we are all good. All our thoughts go out to the other boats with less crew, same conditions and seasickness.

Life jackets and safety harness are alway on (just to let you know mum). No problems so far, maybe they vanished with the wind? We are having some issues producing water, as the salt water inlet is busy being other places than in the water, due to our wobbling around. We have plenty of water, so we will give it some time to see if the sea calms down. If not we have to go off course for some time to have stable flow of salt water.

All in all we are doing very good. Very happy to have Ingrid on-board. We are now well staffed to keep one on watch, one sleeping in the cockpit as backup watch, while a third person is in bed. Line is dismissed from night-time watch, as she runs the galley and the on-board kindergarten.

We hope for calmer seas and that your weekend is only great news!
