Dumia - Dumia Log 8.5.22

It is 12.00 am on May 8. We have been sailing for exactly 24 hours and covered exactly 200 nautical miles. We started the race with a very shrewd starting maneuver in the tradition of late Soling sailor boat captain Dietrich Carl Georg Howaldt with a tack around the can. We crossed the starting line as the third ship and have had fair winds. We passed the western hook of Anguilla and thereafter made direct course to Bermuda with a bearing of 355°.

We subsequently made good speed beam reaching in easterly trades with a wind of 15 knots and boat speed of 8-9 knots, moderate sea state with 1,5 - 2m.

On the fishing front we had some highly interesting experience. We made good use of the first 12 hours on board with half of our crew feeding the fish. This sacrifice was rewarded today when sighted a 2m Blue Marlin jumping three times near Dumia.
