Kiwa - Blog Post 1 - Day 4

Dear all Landlubbers,

After a tremendous start out of Las Palmas and a lot of poring over wind forecasts for the perfect route, we headed SW on a bearing slightly deeper than the majority of the fleet. With much speculation from some of the crew, we sailed a steady 11k breeze all afternoon and night. An excellent half an hour amongst a dense pod of dolphins made for a fine farewell to the Canary Islands!

Day 2: Still unconvinced by the route chosen, but the skipper held fast and we were soon enveloped by a 15k wind that stayed with us all afternoon and night. The spinnaker, rigged on the first evening powered us along beautifully and along the fastest line to st Lucia, running with the wind! As we began to leave gybing monohulls in our wake, the skipper rightfully received compliments on his navigation, well doe that man!

Easy sailing for the next 36 hours with a steady wind and moderate seas. Too easy we thought... Lo and behold, a spinnaker blocks’ shackle failed just before sunrise. Kite down safely, re-rig completed with new shackle and the kite was relaunched!

Following that little escapade, further things have happened. A new blog will be posted once issues are resolved!
Things are still great though, sun, wind, wonderful food and drink. Just wish I could say the same about the company.... 😜

Cheers, Tom (definitely the man with the most bread onboard)
