Blue Pearl - Fakarava

Sharks are swimming around Blue Pearl and this time the water is
crystal clear. This spot is absolutely beautiful. It is the first atoll
in the Tuamotu islands that we are visiting and we are impressed. The
entrance to the atoll is through a cut in the reef and there are many
horror stories on record about entering here. For us it turned out to be
a piece of cake, very calm weather, very little current and slack tide.
The atoll is huge and we are moored at a small beautifully maintained
village with plenty of services including a hotel with, guess what, a
spa! The ladies are there today..! Adrian and I are renting bicycles and
are going to what is supposed to be a beautiful snorkeling spot.

We arrived here yesterday after a really nice 3.5 day long sail from
Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas. Our biggest challenge of the passage was to
slow the boat down sufficiently to arrive at the cut through the reef in
daylight. Blue Pearl just didn't want to slow down, she is a real race
horse when she wants to be. Once here we were able to pick up a mooring
ball right in front of the dive shop where we promptly made arrangements
to go diving on Saturday. On Sunday we are moving on to the southern
part of the atoll to check things out there.

You have probably figured out from my last couple of blogs that we are
having a pretty nice time in the Pacific now. It is a beautiful cruising
area just like we hoped it would be.

We'll keep you in the loop.

Captain Ruud.
