Merlyn III - Getting closer and still rocking...
The Boat that rocks has taken on its own meaning on Merlyn lll – less music
and more motion as we ride the Atlantic rolling from side to side, as well as
continuing to make positive forward progress to St Lucia, about 230 miles -
around thirty hours away depending on the wind strength, setting us up for a
very late or early morning landfall on Thurs/Friday morning. The twin boom rig
is doing its job but can’t counter the waves that seem to come from two
directions at once, providing a corkscrew motion that swings the back of the
boat around – anything unsecured or not on special anti-slip matting goes
flying.....
Excellent vegetable curry from Iain last night, used up most of the spices
and lasted till lunch today. Will miss the totally clear and amazing night sky,
enjoyed a huge shooting star at about 4 am and have got a much better
understanding of the major stars in the universe. Saw two other boats as the 200
plus yachts begin to converge on Rodney Bay in St Lucia. About 5% have already
arrived but there are others with still more than a 1000 miles to go
-hopefully the trade winds will speed us all westward.
