First whisky nosing of the 2013 Malts Cruise

In near perfect conditions for sight-seeing, if not for for sailing, crews from the 2013 Malts Cruise gathered for the first whisky nosing of the Cruise. Seated on wide slabs of black basalt beside the cool waters of Loch Scavaig, it was a chance to learn a little more about what makes Scottish single malt whisky so special. With the mighty Cullin Hills rising around the anchorage, crews had a chance to enjoy a range of single malt whiskies, to discover the depth of flavours and to savour the moment in one of the finest anchorages on the west coast of Scotland.

During the two week Malts Cruise, sailors will explore the islands, lochs and anchorages surrounding Skye and the inner Hebridean islands, learning about the delights of single malt whiskey and discovering the region's unique culture, amazing wildlife and superb scenery.

Since leaving Oban, cruisers have called at Tobermory on Mull before heading out to explore the Small Isles - Muck, Eigg, Canna and Rum. A barbecue of locally caught venison was one of many highlights at the stopover on Rum, as well as the chance to see island's rare Sea Eagles in their natural habitat on a guided wildlife walk.

Boats are now making towards the next rendezvous at Loch Harport, where they will drop anchor in front of the world renown Talisker Distillery - the only distillery on the Isle of Skye.
