Zephyr - The Start!

st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) }24th November 2008  10.00 GMT Hello from the Atlantic Ocean! Despite the preparation week being occupied by a lot of partying, including Monday night as I previously said, also the Caribbean carnival on Wednesday which was a good night, farewell drinks of Friday and concluding with fireworks on Saturday night.  Sunday morning was a new experience for most crews including ours…hangover free and looking forward to the journey. Last minute jobs were being taken care of and then we set off yesterday for the racing start at 1pm.  With approx. 200 boats in the harbour waiting to go, it was a little manic being in the middle of everyone when crossing the line.  The wind was good and once the twin head sails were sorted we were making a steady 7.5 - 8 knots!. read more...

Zephyr - Where's the wind we ordered!! - 26th November

st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } Just to get the record straight at the outset, we’re not still in a bar in Las Palmas!!  We’re sending in position reports but, for some reason, our position is still shown incorrectly.  We are trying to rectify the situation by bringing it to ARC Control’s attention and hope you’ll be able to see it soon. Well, another night passed off very comfortably, we’re still getting very light winds 6-8 knots, the sea is very calm but, we can only make about 3-4 knots.  Under normal circumstances, on shorter passages, we’d have resorted to the engine long ago.  However, our main engine is the only method we have to recharge the batteries and so this early in the journey, we need to conserve our fuel. After. read more...
