In 1947 K Adlard Coles founded his own publishing company. He himself wrote many books, including pilots, narratives and the classic, world-famous Heavy Weather Sailing. Today, Adlard Coles Nautical is an imprint of A & C Black Publishers, who bought both Nautical Books and Adlard Coles and merged the two in 1990. Over thirty books a year are produced by a team of three, headed by Janet Murphy, director of Adlard Coles Nautical and editor since 1986. Its future looks assured with plenty of new authors, and more importantly, the support of enthusiastic readers and sailors. With almost 300 books in print, Adlard Coles Nautical continues to provide sailors with practical, informative and up-to-date books on a wide range of cruising topics.

The city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was founded in June 24th, 1478 by the Castilian captain Juan Rejón, who started the conquest of the island from the area placed at the mouth of the “Guiniguada” ravine.
