Bolero - Half way

Half Way!

At 22:00 hrs we crossed the half way point. The distance to go was 1080 miles. Nick and Ian thought we would cross at the change of watch, and we did, so we were all able to share the moment.

There were a few localised small clouds overnight, but none produced an appreciable increase in wind speed. It was dry on deck so we were able to sail in shorts, a fleece is still needed as the wind is cool during the night.

We are continuing to sail the same course as North Star. We are sure that they are pleased to say good bye to the last 24 hours and the challenges it brought.

We had a celebratory cooked breakfast and Bucks Fizz to mark the mid way point.

The drum roll distance at 11:00 hours Atlantic Adventure Eastern Time was 997. 157 miles in 24 hours. It’s great to have broken the 1000 mile barrier. It really does feel a if we are making progress to Grenada. Amazing to think that we are now north of South America!

The clocks were put back an hour at 14:00 so we are now in Atlantic Adventure mid ocean time.

The afternoon passed with us catching up on sleep and putting the world to rights in the cockpit….. though it has to be said, after a week at sea we have no idea what is going on in the world! Life is good on board.

We have seen very little wildlife in this part of the Atlantic Ocean, a couple of frigate birds and a few flying fish skimming the waves. 2 dead flying fish on board.

Our celebratory half way dinner was bangers and mash and panettone bread and butter pudding. Yum!

The sun set at 17:30. We had our first glimpse of the moon for days as it was setting in the west an hour later. The clear skies in the middle of the ocean allow clear views of the night sky, the shadow of the earth on the moon was clearly visible as a different coloured its surface.

Night watches began at 19:00hrs.

Fair winds
