Hi from the crew of Mairmade.
Today was another fantastic day in the mid Atlantic; kicked off with a beautiful sunrise and another gastronomic breakfast courtesy of Harry (we don't remember such amazing breakfasts during the 4 summers we spent in Greece, maybe Harry is Italian 🤔).
The wind cooperated nicely overnight (as I mentioned earlier), and remained quite robust in the morning, above 10 knots, which meant our plans to take out Jeremy for an airing went on hold. He's still a soggy mess!
But while Jeremy had to remain indoors, a wind shift to the North meant that his younger sister, Chloe (the code-0) came out to play.
While Jeremy flies in up to 10 knots of apparent wind, Chloe is comfortable in anything below 15 knots apparent. Note the word 'apparent'; since this is a downwind passage, and the boat was travelling at an 8 knot average, this meant winds up to ~20 knots were good... And we got them! 💨
The morning saw more domestic chores; cleaning and laundry (Russ' turn with the washing machine), and Claudia spent an hour re-organizing the fridges as we've managed to create some breathing room in there.
Lunch was Mahi sashimi 🍣, and it was delicious. Not meaning to temp fate we did provision with Soy sauce and wasabi 🤣
As the afternoon wore on, eventually even Chloe had to come back inside, and we've switched back to the jib+main for the overnight. It's still blowing 18-20 knots as I write, and is forecast to remain like this most of the night 🤞
At 1pm today, we recorded a 24 hour distance of 158nm for a passage total of 1019nm. We've also had a good line for St. Lucia most of the past 2 days, although going a little North right now.
With the present and forecast winds, we're hoping to clock a 24 hour mileage tomorrow closer to that of day#1... Let's see.
