Sabine - sabine update 26 Nov

Hello interweb friends, Captain Stape on sail boat Sabine right here (///organist.irrational.freedoms)
This parrot had his feathers ruffled at 0130 this morning when he was rudely awakened by Jenny starting up. Apparently, Otto the autopilot was on a power hungry rampage and was draining the batteries. Bah!
Still, Jenny went quiet after an hour and I was able to get back to my beauty sleep again. (Sleep is the secret as to how I keep my plumage so bright and colourful)
For breakfast John made something called ‘French Toast’ (which in France they just call call ‘toast’), which tasted delicious when covered in a generous helping of maple syrup. Then a little later Polina made scrambled eggs, so it was rude not to accept the offer of a second breakfast!
The skipper has set the sails in a new configuration today: something called ‘butterfly wings’, with the spinnaker and Genoa on opposite sides of the boat as we sail dead downwind. I say ‘wings’ but whilst it looks good and seems to be effective, they can’t compare to my beautiful, brightly coloured, perfectly preened wings! However, they’ve kept us going at a steady lick, and we’re slowly getting back onto the rum line. I just hope there’s still some rum left when we get there!
As we head further south, the temperature is rising, so it’s shorts and t-shirts for the crew.
Except at night, when there’s still a little chill in the air.
Exciting news! We’ve had contact with other boats! Kia found the IridiumGo! satellite comms numbers for the other boats so Polina messaged our friends on s/b Navasana. The IridiumGo! unit then pinged multiple times over the next hour as we found out they have caught 2 fish over our 1. On hearing this, Kia immediately started studying the charts and muttered something about a course change to head to good fishing waters, even though it’s not a competition…
Panic panic - the crew is in a panic! Apparently after starting the crossing with 40 Picnic chocolate bars brought over by Richard, there are only 4 left. Well, there are now only 2 left as Polina swiped 2 of them on discovery and squirrelled them away.
Wind change = sail change. Wind is up, spinnaker is down, Genoa is out and set for the night.
And that’s about all for today my friends. 1883mi to go!
This is Capt. Stape signing off: ciao ciao squawk!
