Emerald - A Fishy Tale

'I'm going to catch a fish today', said Rick in his Lancashire brogue. Rick, a man not to messed with at the best of times, a man who, for a living, absails down oil rigs carrying out safety checks, growling as he does so at the elephant seals sometimes gathered at the bottom awaiting the odd Health & Safety cock-up. Out went the line with a brightly coloured lure, 10 yards - not enough, 30 yards should do it. Just before dusk he yelled, he shouted, he jumped for joy, 'I've got one, it's a big one, it's fish for dinner'. He reeled it in bit by bit and before we know it a Dorado of good size is bleeding all over the back of the boat. 'Oh poor thing', yells one 'Whack it', yells another 'bash it oer t'hed' says Steve as he passed him the winch handle. 'I can't see myself killing it'. read more...

Emerald - Thanks

We may not win any podium prizes in St. Lucia but the crew of Emerald all feel like Oscar winners for having taken part in the ARC. We each have come a long way from 10 mile long Lake Windermere (one of us in a kayak) to a voyage of some 2880 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. So in time honoured Oscar tradition we would like to thank the following: Tim Lees and Steve Lennie, fellow Lake sailors, your emails have been uplifting, inspiring and down right hilarious. Tim your photo will be in the post and Steve, we owe you a pint or three of that famous brew in the Ship - thanks guys you have been great!!!!!! Mums, Dads, Uncle Tony & Auntie Gill & Andrea, you have supported us every mile and we thank you (one Mum, and she knows who she is, had better get reading those emails. read more...
