Tatt av vinden - Tatt av vinden 4 hours to go

We have prepared the boat. Just topping up the water. And of course a nice breakfast. We have done our morning running and we are all ready for it. We hope we are. We have been preparing for so long. Both mentally and practically. Today is the day. The weather is fine. The forcast is good. Tatt av vinden - Slow start and no more genaker sailing

We had a good night. It is good we did not have strong winds the first night. We are possibly sailing among the more slower boats. We are happy with that. We tried to pick up some speed today, by setting the genaker. The halyard broke after one hour! It was quite a job to pull it out of the water, but after 20 minuits it was on deck again.Just now light winds, sunshine, I am listeninng to the reading of positions on the SSB radio, and that confirms that we are a little behind.. read more...

Tatt av vinden - Local time UTC -1h

One of the captain's privileges is to decide what local time is on board. From UTC 0900 this morning "Tatt av vinden" is on UTC minus one hour. When the local time is changed, the crew has decided (that is democracy) that there shall be a celebration. So we will have our first one today!Next celebration will be when we sail into the tropics. Probably we will not reach there till the day after tomorrow. The winds are light, and the progress is slow. Though we "cheated" a little last night and run the engine. The slamming from the sails in the light wind was too much for a good nights sleep. And it is very imortant to get a good nights sleep the secoond night at sea. Tatt av vinden - At last some sailing

Yes we have got a little gentle wind today. Tuched 6 knots /the boat) a couple of times. At least enough that we today can run the engine just for chargeing the batteries!And the wind made us able to sail into the tropics! Which means we are south of latitude 23.The most of the day is filled with practicalities, more than we expected. We read a little, but just a little. We thought we should have a lot of time both for reading and writeing... Well we have only just adapted to the watch routine. Takes four days. Maybe there will be a poem or two.The days have been beautiful. During the night, dolphins come and say hello. In the morning they come and say good morning.
