Palapa is a 45 ft deck Salon Catalina and crossed the Pacific and Indian Oceans and made her way through the Red sea and Med with no problems.

Aimee and Roger where recently married and are embarking on the ARC as the kickoff to a never ending honeymoon. Aimee is from Vancouver Canada and since spending 6 months sailing the South Pacific last year she has been focused on trying to find a way to spend her life on the sea. Roger was from California, which he left in 2008 to cross the Pacific on his circumnavigation.

Palapa is very well outfitted with all major conveniences and 2 satellite communication systems. This as allowed Roger to use Palapa as a mobile office for consulting after selling a GPS company to pay for Palapa. Aimee will take advantage of this to continue her career as a Freelance Graphic Artist to keep the cruising kitty full.

Their goal is to enjoy the warm parts of the world while searching for the perfect deserted island to settle down on.

La Palapa - Made it! 12 Dec, Rodney Bay

so we made it, i must say the trip hardly even qualified as a passage about 2800 nm in 20 days.the weather everything was way tooo nice.i guess i finally traded some of my bad crossing carma.i am only concerned this may have set an unrealistically high level of expectation for aimee but it was our honeymoon! of course we had to finish the race "twice" to allow the photographer enough time to come out and take a photo of us (i think the photos are 300 euro so we will be taking a pass on this).we came in at 820am and i dont think any one was up yet. karl and birgit met us at the dock with Champagne and then from that event we went for breakfast and some more champagne and then onto another germans friends boat bopsi for some guitar playing then back to palapa for a nap and on to yet. read more...

La Palapa - harder than it looks! 11 dec, 50nm to st lucia

since we got our fish yesterday we where basically complete with our underway checklist and we had a perfect final day at sea.we had been running on empty on fuel all night so first thing in the morning once the sun was up i got to work getting everything out of the lazeretee so i could get our 6 5 gal jerry jugs out.while i worked on this aimee got up and started on breakfast.we had breakfast quesadillas as we where out of eggs but still had some homemade salsa to go with them.after breakfast i got the remainder of the stuff from the lazzeret reorganized and re-stowed.by then it was time to get the fish prepped for the lunch fish taco event.i got the fish breaded and condiments set up and turned the kitchen back over to aimee for her ceviche preparation.the fish tacos where amazing i. read more...

La Palapa - Fish ho! 10 Dec 200nm to St Lucia

apparently someone else did think the red squid was attractive although the fish did bite a good deal after sunset so its not clear how well he saw our perfect lure.aimee and i where happily below finishing of a plate of meat and cheese and "bang" i heard the shock cord snap.i went on deck and low and behold there was a fish still attached to our line.i had the presence of mind to remove my sarong and grab the one fish glove we still have before i started realling the guy in hand over hand.i yelled for aimee to grab the gaff and as i pulled this nasty looking guy onto the swim step and before i could say anything to aimee she gaffed it right through!ok so thats done i thought.i decided to go with scotts method of tying a line around the tail to gain control of the thing (which was still. read more...

La Palapa - Does this not look delicious? 9 Dec, 340 nm to St Lucia

today was meant to be another compete relaxation day and it basically was.around 830 am i was hungry and started rummaging around in the kitchen foraging for food.just as i was doing this aimee pocked her head out of the "cave" and shooed me out of the kitchen promising another egg stack breakfast with one of our last eggs, perfect timing.  i took the time to get our new high power dust buster wired up for palapa power.aimee picked up the dustbuster in las palmas just before we left and it is more like a mini vacuum with a hose and everything.it takes 18 volts 200 mamps and the wall wart provided only works with 220 volt.i rummaged around in our electronics gear and found a targus computer adaptor that put out 19.5 volts and even found the right plug so we are in business.just as i. read more...

La Palapa - best passage day ever! 9 Dec 477nm to St Lucia

how can a day not be great when it is started off with the world famous cabbage and bacon breakfast.i used half a cabbage and a pack of bacon for this healthy start breakfast and had it ready for aimee when she got up.she was very impressed and we discussed the fact that this was the first breakfast i had made since the very first night she stayed over.after breakfast iadd a bit more gorilla tape to the area just inboard of the clue patch we had 5200ed on.in retrospect we should have made the patch with more horizontal and less vertical strength but it seems to be holding well with the gorilla tape and perhaps we can get a sponsor for the rest of our trip!i climbed up on the boom and aimee handed me up tape and i slapped it on to add additional reinforcement to the sail.after this we got. read more...
