La Palapa - harder than it looks! 11 dec, 50nm to st lucia

since we got our fish yesterday we where basically complete with our underway checklist and we had a perfect final day at sea. we had been running on empty on fuel all night so first thing in the morning once the sun was up i got to work getting everything out of the lazeretee so i could get our 6 5 gal jerry jugs out. while i worked on this aimee got up and started on breakfast. we had breakfast quesadillas as we where out of eggs but still had some homemade salsa to go with them.

after breakfast i got the remainder of the stuff from the lazzeret reorganized and re-stowed. by then it was time to get the fish prepped for the lunch fish taco event. i got the fish breaded and condiments set up and turned the kitchen back over to aimee for her ceviche preparation. the fish tacos where amazing i must say. i breaded the fisch chunks and then fried the for about 8 minutes in olive oil then put them in tortillas with onion cabbage mayo and chipolte sauce. could not have found a better fish taco if we had been in mexico!

the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing with a bit of butt tanning mixed in. the wind actually came in so we had a combination of sailing and motor sailing all day. finally at 3pm we did our afternoon swim call. of course at this point we where doing 3.5 kts on sail alone so i rigged a line behind the boat and we took turns towing each other. here you see me holding on with one hand and beer in other. its actually harder than it looks as you have to use your legs to keep from flipping over. very fun and exhilarating.

after swim call we moved into happy hour with the last of the mango martini's and aimee's ceviche. the ceviche was great even though it was her first time. after the ceviche we had another great sunset viewed from the cabin top. this really would have been enough for the evening except we had this massive piece of fish in the refer that needed to be grilled. i got the grill going an aimee made some garlic and butter sause with i applied liberally to the fish. it took a bit longer than expected but the fish turned out great. we ate a bit but saved most of it for sandwiches and perhaps another round of fish tacos.

right now its 2330, aimee if about to get up for her watch. we are 50n out from st lucia and expect to get in around 8am. we just went through a nice little squall which should have cleaned all the salt off the boat so we should arrive in style.

looking forward to popping a bottle of champagne when we arrive and getting some real coffee! hopefully our friends karl and birgit will meet us but it may be to early for them. we got an email they have been partying non stop for the last 36 hours since they arrived.

cheers,
roger
