The World Famous BBYC Dinghy Race

The World Famous BBYC Dinghy Race
Monday, 14 May, 2010

It was another day of fun and festivities today at the Bora Bora as the participants of Group 2 of the World ARC fleet met to take part in the now famous dinghy race at the Bora Bora Yacht Club (BBYC). There were several international entries into the competitions where the rules were simple. No engines, everything else goes! After all the fun of the afternoon the fleet met together for a splendid BBQ meal. It was a great feast and the participants were well entertained by music from a local band.

Most of the boats of Group 2 have been taking part in the Tahiti Pearl Regatta, but some were nevertheless not too ‘raced-out’ to take part in the equally auspicious BBYC Dinghy Race. Teams from Crazy Horse, Liza, Ronja, Sunrise and Tucanon joined in the fun, with many more boats watching on the shore. The ‘there and back’ course meant that it didn’t necessarily pay to be the first to the turnaround point. Well done to all those who took part!

In the evening, the crews met ashore for drinks as the sun was setting. There was a short prizegiving ceremony for the Dinghy Race and a presentation of thanks to the Bora Bora Yacht Club. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a wonderful BBQ, supported by a dish from each boat.

The skippers briefing for group 2 will take place tomorrow and the restart to Tonga, via Suwarrow and Niue, on Wednesday 19th May.
