Fun and Games in Bora Bora

Fun & Games in Bora Bora
Friday, 14 May 2010

It was fun and games this afternoon and evening in Bora Bora when World ARC participants took to the water to compete in the 1st round of the infamous International Dinghy Racing Championships, hosted by the Bora Bora Yacht Club (BBYC). Competitors from several different nations negotiated the rectangular course whilst dodging water bombs, porridge bombs and uninvited acts of piracy from other competitors. After the race the competitors , and those spectating, joined together for the prize-giving and a BBQ.

A competitive startThe Pirates of Destiny

The BBYC dingy race is becoming a regular fixture in the World ARC programme in Bora Bora, having created equal amounts of fun for the World ARC crews two years ago. With most boats of the fleet participating in the Tahiti Pearl Regatta, the first round of this year’s Championships was a bit smaller in participation but certainly no less fun. A big thank you and well done to the crews of Destiny, Eowyn, Thor and the Yacht club staff for taking part.

And after everyone had dried off and changed, all the participants met ashore for sundowners and a splendid BBQ meal. Participants sat together on the terrace of the yacht club and were serenaded by local musicans well into the evening. It was an excellent atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Following the skippers briefing tomorrow, Group 1 will restart on Sunday, 16th May.
