CREW MOTIVATIONS

So why is everyone here? You will get to meet each member of the crew over the next couple of weeks, but here is a quick summary of the team and their reasons for joining Tahira for this crossing. We hear common themes of: team, experience, challenge, but also some personal motivations specific to each member of the team.

Bryan 'Q' - Quartermaster
Bryan's first experience of sailing was on the Winston Churchill sail training boat where he had to climb the mast in port which scared him to death, and the next day they sailed across the channel to Channel Islands. Sailing to other countries has always inspired him and feels much more glamorous. He has many years sailing experience, but sees an Atlantic crossing as the 'ultimate achievable challenge'. He also feels that we live in a 'sanitised world' and that this is a great opportunity to do something different.

Tony 'TIG' - Crew
Tony enjoys always having a project to be working on as it puts his mind in a different place. He has many years sailing experience and is now looking forward to a different experience, and to seeing what St Lucia will have in store for him after the crossing.

Peter the 'Admiral' - Co-owner & Crew
Peter has already completed an Atlantic crossing and so the experience will not be new for him, but he is looking forward to seeing what this crossing has in store for him. This time he is a co-owner of the boat and a key decision maker. Peter is also fulfilling a promise he made to John a couple of years ago to join him on the ARC and to do it in his own boat will be a different experience.

Chris 'Stotty' - Co-owner & Skipper
Chris is enjoying the challenge of being the team leader, and he is also keen to ensure that all members of the team have a good time. He is also keen to progress his sailing career and to become a commercial skipper where he would have the option to deliver boats all over the world. To do this, he needs to have time as a Watch Leader on an Ocean Package.

John the 'Squirrel' - Co-owner & First Mate
John is an experienced and instinctive sailor, but recognises that crossing an ocean as big as the Atlantic will be a new experience. Simply being out in the middle of a massive ocean will be completely different, and something most serious sailors aspire to at some stage. He is also looking forward to being part of a team and keen to support everyone on the crossing.

Andy the 'Blog' - Crew
Andy is always keen to take on new challenges & adventures and to see what experiences they bring. When asked if he wanted to join the Tahira crew he felt 'why not' - but the conflict with working full time has taken a while to reconcile. But what makes this trip so special is that he is doing it with two of his oldest mates in John and Chris.

Note: we sometime struggle to post our blogs, so don't panic is we miss a day or two... :
