Wolkenschlößchen and its crew has started the ARC 2023 and we are so excited about what lies before us in the next weeks. Today is a super calm and sunny day in Las Palmas and so the start was a pleasantly slow. For all except Lennart's dad it was a the very first start of a race (or rally to be precise) and we were all a bit excited and nervous to be criss-crossing by a few meters with so many boats before the starting line. Andreas will his experience however decided to give up no meter and made sure we crossed the line as one of the first boats.
After that, we all calmed down and and so did the winds as well so with the hours almost all of the field decided to use their motors. With sunset we reached the southern tip of Gran Canaria and could change course for some more reaching winds. We originally planned not to use our Oxley parasail (light wind sail) during nights. Well, we gave up on that plan in night one and are now sailing comfortably in calm waters. This is a most wonderful start of the race. We could easily cook our first meal and everyone will get a good sleep in this weather. We are beyond thankful and are looking forward to the next days (and maybe just a little bit more wind).
