May 6th start for ocean cruising rally to Europe

Entries are still being received for this year’s ARC Europe transatlantic rally, which departs from Nanny Cay marina on Tortola in May. Already the provisional entry list has reached 27 with yachts from 8 different nationalities - Canada, France, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the USA - represented.

Originally called the Casa Azores the café was opened at the end of the 19th century by Ernesto Azevendo as a handicraft shop, but gradually began selling drinks too - in particular gin & tonics favoured by the British.

An area of high pressure located close to 48N 15W 1034mb is going to be building northeastwards through Ireland and the British Isles over the coming day, as an E’ly flow increases through the bay of Biscay and northern Spain. A thermal low over Spain is maintained with mainly light winds and a weak flow throughout the forecast period in sea areas west of Iberia. Satellite continues to show extensive fog through central and western Josephine and a further persistent patch west of Lisbon.
