Sookie - Leg 2 Day 2 Corned Beef and Mash

17th may 2012

We got off to a great start yesterday with all the other yachts in our class.  We crossed the start line about fourth and headed for the "Town Cut" exit from Bermuda.  we were chuffed to be the first boat entering and exiting the "Town Cut" before a half left turn towards Horta in the Azores.  All afternoon and last night was spent trading positions with a boat called "A Lady" and this morning after 150 miles we are similarly set and only about 4 miles abreast.  She is a tough boat to keep up with (Oyster56).  Andy is reliving his getting sea legs scenario which last time took a couple of days.  Hopefully all will be well sooner rather than later.  The sailing at the moment is a lot more hands on than when we crossed from the Canary Islands and quite chilly with the dampness last night.  However this is no less than we expected.  Our first 24 hour log should see us cover very close to 190 Nm with only one hours engine use last night due to a lull before a squall.  Pip banged her knee last night which opened up a window for Jay and I to have a brunch of corned beef, baked beans and instant mash (A dish which our previous cook also refused to make). Andy declined the offer.    We were also briefly joined by about 15 to 20 speckly looking dolphins yesterday.

183 Miles logged:  1611 to go. If only this could be kept up all the way!!
