Trillium - Log 4-Fish Tales and More

Our first full day of sailing was terrific! The sun broke through the clouds to give us a perfect day. The winds were just right so we were under sail all day. It was a sailor's delight!

Then it happened! We slowed down for Dennis to do an engine check and sail adjustment. Unfortunately, after heaving to, we went into irons. That is not a real problem. Not until the helmsman tried to get us out of irons. Then it happened: three fishing lines were tangled around the prop. No one thought about the lines when maneuvering. We had just brought in a beautiful mahi mahi and put the line back out.

What a mess! Tom went over and cut the lines to free the prop. Then the next fiasco happened. We had put out a line with a fender attached for Tom to rest on between dives under the boat. Once he was safely back on board, the fender and line slipped away and was heading back to Tortola! We tried to find it, but failed. It was then someone mentioned that our fish cleaning bucket also went with the fender!

The positive is that we had fresh mahi mahi for dinner. We will figure out how to deal with the bucket loss and keep fishing.
