Samsara - even paradise has its trials and tribulations.....

April 22

Day 2 - no mudslides.  Yesterday was voting day, apparently no alcohol sales are allowed (except with meals). Today there was no icecream with which to make mudslides. Paradise has its downfalls.  Kidding aside  - we spent Friday exploring downtown Papeete, yesterday playing in the pool, and today we walked for hours (no buses and few cabs on Sunday) but got a bit of work done on the boat.  Cleaned out the fridge/freezer, scrubbed the teak shelves. Did a bit of fiberclass work on the bow where the anchor did a bit of damage when it broke free on the way to Ft. Lauderdale (wind against the Gulf Stream means lots of waves!).  Lee has started pulling the old lifelines so we can install new, and tomorrow we should have the rudder looked at to know exactly what is involved. Lee doesn't want a "quick fix" but wants to make sure the fix is complete.

So we're probably looking at 2 weeks in the hotel. I don't mind a bit (neither does Lee - he loves the air conditioning) but our bank account will take a beating with the fix and the hotel bills too.  I did a load of laundry in the coin machine today at the marina - roughly $5.60 or so just to wash a load in the coin machine. Life is expensive here.

I'm reading "Love In The Time Of Cholera"  - it's so nice to finally be able to read the classics I didn't have time for before between work/kids.

Good night,
Pauline
