As the ARC crossing goes to end up in Saint Lucia, and we estimate to
arrive around xxx o'clock today, Saturday 10, I am very thoughtful.
This crossing has been dream for me for a long time, and I think this is
the time to thank all the people that have made this possible to carry
out.
First I want to thank my doughters: Mari-Amanda (20) and Anya-Henriette
(29) who take care of our business when we are away.
I took my certificate for Deck Officer Class 5A at Arsile school in Oslo,
and want to thank Lars S. Larsen for all he teached me about boats, navigation
and living at sea. I had never been sailing a yacht before we bought this
sailyacht from Fjord Sail AS at Høvik. The owner of the company, Tor Hove,
gave us very good advise when we ordered the boat from him in February. He
delievered the boat to us in Slovenia in April. He gave me 4-5 hours of
intensive training to go in and out of marina, hault and adjust the sails, reef
and take down the sails again. - Then we sailed away
My wife Gro had never been in a sailing sailboat before. She has
hydrophobia and did not promise me anything. After a storm around Brindisi, 8m
waves and 47 kn wind, she evaluated, but stayed onboard. Just when we came to
Las Palmas she desided to cross the Atlantic, and now she talks about where she
want to sail after ARC - thank you Gro - and lucky me
Thank you to Kim Viggedal (24), a nice and clever swedish student who
sailed with us as crew from Ibiza to Gibraltar, Marocco and Las palmas.
Thank you to my collegue and friend, Audun Gulhaugen, who sailed with
us from Rabat to Agadir.
We were thinking about who we should choose as our crew when crossing.
Selection was to nice police collegues and friends of me, who I knew as solid
blocks when things are tough. Håkon 29 years old, also sailed with us from
Palermo to Mallorca, first time in sailboat. Gjermund (Ingo aus Norwegen) 45,
never been sailing before either.
Thank you to Mada at Frivind.no, Norway, who gave us good weather forecast
and route advice.
We got a pole for the genoa in Las Palmas. Mounting was finnished at 11
o'clock sunday before start at 13 00 - no time to practice.
In the sea every one was positive - everyone had a lot to learn and learned
a lot - every one was in good mode - nice and happy, and it was an extremly
enjoying voyage.
It was also a spesial last evening yesterday night, sunset with a
incredible beauty. - Then the dolphins were swimming around the boat, jumping
and playing just in the mirror of the moonshine in the sea.
So - thank you all who made this possible for us!
Thank you so much!!
ETA arrival Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia: About 14 00 UTC , 10 00 Local time, –
20 nice - days in the sea - - Thank you to the
Atlantic ocean, and the ARC and the people who arrange this crossing!
Fred the captain
