Sibilation - Day 19

Land ahoy!

At 10.30am this morning (Friday 9th December) the skipper awoke his crew with the news they’d been waiting to hear. Land ahoy, he announced at the top of his voice! Pigeon Island came into view (at least we think it’s St Lucia, it’s definitely the Caribbean!) After some debate about it just being a big cloud, we settled on the fact it was land and the necessary photograph pointing at it was taken.

Currently the GPS reads 43nm to go, and at a speed of about 5 knots (motoring at present) we aim to be there by the early evening UTC (local time is –4 hours).

Over the last 24 hours we’ve motored on and off, as the wind as picked up and then died off again. We needed about 7-8 knots apparent breeze on a close reach for sailing, which we managed for a couple of stints throughout the night.

We’re reasonably hopeful this will be the final blog written at sea, and there may be some delay in the update from St Lucia depending on how much rum punch is available!
