Happy Morning - One Week in!

One week in! its gone pretty fast actually. We have a busy routing, and each day bring different weather of a new challenge. What a difference a day makes. Today the wind has been building and seas too. We have been bashing to weather re aclimatising to life at 45 degrees again. Its difficult to do things and holding on and watching out to avoid treading on ropes below is key. Mick R seems to have resolved the power issue we hope. At least the windgen has been pumping in all day and both batteries are full so no need to run the gen or engine today. We are still keeping all but vital electrical equipment switched off.

I think some bigger boats caught the breeze to the west and north of us before we did, but we are still jogging along, number 1 genoa and 1 reef in the main, heading as south as we can on this fresh SW'ly. Everyone is quite tired today, its needed a very keen eye on the helm and the main has to be played constantly to thread our way through the gusts and the chop. Reminisant of Colne Bar on a bad day.

On the wildlife front the early hours watch had another visit from a pod of dolphins, and this afternoon we have seen many flying fish darting out of our way.

We are nearly 90nm west of Cape Verde Islands and as the crow flies 1984 miles to go to St Lucia. Ian has organised an onboard sweep as to when we will arrive, a tenner in.

Happy Morning is holding up well to the pounding so far, perhaps better than we are, the only downer is the water pump has broken down so we cannot get water from the taps. This isnt a problem for now; we have spares onboard and tons of bottles etc whilst we wait for conditions to moderate so a repair can be attempted. Actually, the other downer is I dont have a leecloth in the rear berth, and sleeping with my feet on the ceiling whilst barackading myself in with bags etc to avoid flying across the cabin is a little tiresome.

Its cloudy today but still very warm. Had a good tussle with an Elan 43 for 24hrs but she finally got the better of us and has now cracked off on a more western track. We are back on our lonesome with no boats around nor any traffic on the radio. Just water water everywhere except out of our taps.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Best, Dave & crew.
