Maggy V - Log day 4 - first log

Hi there everybody following us

A sign of life from Maggy V at position N23.03' 5, W25.37'9.
We are heading west with the help from good trade winds from East.
A bit of a rough start after a lot of last minute repairs on our rig. But Maggy V is doing fine. She knows the way from 2007 and safely she is bringing us towards St Lucia. With two children on board we have managed to find the optimal balance under the umbrella of safety  -between comfort and speed.

The life on board has started to settle in a calm and quiet way. The dark peirod is however very long. But we look forward to more moonlight the nights to come.

The skipper has done the ARC one time before. For me and for the rest of the crew its the first time. I feel privileged be here.
A lots of thoughts are spinning around my mind behind the wheel. Some thoughts are going so far back as the vikings and our big explorers Amundsen and Nansen! It must be something in our blood. And even further, they didn't have all the tecnical equipment that we can lean on today. But they found their way. Impressing.

Warm thanks to all of you who made it possible for me to join this year. Family, especially my daughter Johanne(14) who really wanted to join the race herself (next time, love), friends and last but not least all of my good colleagues at work. Thank you all. Still some 10-12 days to go before we reach our goal. Maggy V is a remarkable lady. Steady and robust.

Log written while the rest of the crew is taking a bath. 25C in the sea. Not bad. My turn next. The smell inside the ship goes from the odour of wet wool and sweathy sailing suits to the unusual smell of somehing we back home call shampoo and soap.

The Svellingen family sending their regards to all of the readers.

Best regards

Torgrim
