Pikorua - Day 5 More excitement

Es bleibt spannend. Um 01.30 Uhr heißt es: Alle Mann an Deck! Der Gennaker hat sich im Vorstag verdreht und lässt sich zunächst nicht mehr bergen! Dann rauscht das Fall aus und wir müssen das Segel bei starkem Wind und Seegang aus dem Wasser bergen. Um 02.00 Uhr ist der Spuk dann vorbei ? das Segel allerdings ohne professionelle Bearbeitung beim Segelmacher nicht mehr zu gebrauchen. Tagsüber gehen wir noch einmal das Deck durch und reparieren den einen oder anderen Beschlag.

Continuing with the excitment. At 0130 hours all of the crew are called on deck because the gennaker has wrapped itself around the forestay and tangled, preventing it from being snuffed. It tears and takes a lot of effort to drag it onto the boat in the wind, waves and darkness. By 0200 everything is over but the sail looks as if it can only be repaired by professionals so we resume sailing with a poled-out genoa and main sail, and the off-watch crew returns to bed. The next day the rig is checked and minor repairs are done to chafing ropes in the sunshine.
