Adastra of Yar - 26th - 27th

The night of 25th was another one of light winds so we motored for most of it however there were amazing shooting stars - presumably large lumps of space debris coming back to earth.  Phosphorescence was good again but we couldn't compete with one boat who reported seeing dolphins in the night, glowing like missiles as they approached.

Yesterday the wind was reluctant to get above 8 knots which made for slow progress but we finally lost sight of every other boat on the rally and had the ocean to ourselves until we passed a square rigger about 3 miles away.

The weather forecast showed light winds to the west of us so we reached south overnight to avoid it and found steady breeze which allowed Adastra to stretch her legs.

After breakfast we changed to twin headsails again and set a south westerly course which would take us below a low which was producing squalls and headwinds. Great breeze of up to 20 knots produced an exciting ride with a top speed of 9.5 knots in building seas.

The downside to this burst of speed was that the fish we caught managed to break the wire leader we were using and a second fish actually broke the line so we are rearming the rod with some indestructable line.  3rd time lucky hopefully - there are clearly some big fish out there...

We should be at our arbitary turning point in the middle of nowhere sometime tomorrow night from where we hope to pick up the trade winds and turn west towards St Lucia.
