Second Wind - Day 2 - Up the mast and first Tuna catch by Martin

Hi everyone

All good on day 2 – we hit a small part of the acceleration zone off the back of Gran Canaria but only 20 knots of wind. During the evening we set the spinnaker pole to stabilize the parasailor and we had 40% of the main up for stability. Hardly any roll onboard and everyone comfortable.

On our daily rigging and yacht check we realized the spinnaker halyard pulley at the top of the mast had jammed, so to agree democratically who should go up we picked the lightest. The sea was flat and we took our time winching up, releasing the line and then resetting everything up. We put short rope lengths between all metal to metal contacts to make the wear affect the rope which we can discards rather than the metal quick release shackles.

We had steak with pepper sauce for lunch so that cheered everyone up!!! Shopping was worth it.

Just after lunch we caught an 8lbs tuna which we prepared and had for tea with lemon and black pepper – very good. Will and I gutted, filleted and prepared the fish to everyone’s joy.

All from me today – will try and get a picture of the yellow fin tuna on the site.

All our love, Martin
