Dear 'Friends and Family' (and anyone else that knows us)
Well, where to start! Not too bad over the line, for a bunch of sailing muppets. Actaully left a Challenger boat in our wake. Spinnaker wrap after an hour dented our hopes. This cost us about an hour and a few miles. It also caused another problem which didn't manifest itself til yesterday evening. The headsail would not unfurl fully and the only solution was to send Tony L up the mast as daylight was failing. He did a very passable Martin Keane impression and soon had it sorted. Shame dinner was served in the pitch black and my new Chinos are now a nice gravy colour!
A very strange and eerie night ensued. Tony C and I were on the dog watch 3a.m. til 6a.m with zero wind nicely pirroueting as if in strictly come dancing. We were visited by ....what we don't know. It sounded like a Harley Davidson as it approached but then disappeared as soon as it came. Still debate as to what it was but could have been a large whale with toncilitis. We will never know! Currently heading South keeping East of the 18th longitude (we have a cunning plan!).
