UHURU of Lymington - Day 2

Day 2 – Are we nearly there yet?!

We've been going for just over 24 hours now and everyone seems to be settling into the watch pattern very nicely. The kite is up and flying and the boys are constantly tweaking it to squeeze every bit of boat speed out of it. I have just baked our first 2 loaves of bread, 1 white and 1 brown. They look and smell pretty good but I'm a bit scared to cut into them just incase…..looks can be deceiving! Josh has also just done his first sextant sighting and worked out our position to within 1.8 miles, not bad.

On the fishing front we had a bit of a disaster yesterday when a boat crossed our stern and took out both of our fishing lines so we had to cut them free. Luckily we have spare line on board and we did actually catch a fish this morning. However, by the time we'd reeled it into the boat there was only a head left on the line. Something else had got to it before us and it must've been something big! Early days yet though and we'll keep you updated.

Buzz, Josh and I have just had a circuits session on the bow. The aerobic part of it was hoisting Charlie up the mast as a tag team and we then used our dive weights for a bit of a resistance session. We got so into it we even forgot Charlie was up the mast checking the rigging, oops! Life on board with 7 men is good so far but maybe they're all still on best behaviour – let's hope they can keep that up for the next couple of weeks!

We can see a couple of boats on the horizon at the moment and very happily they're behind us. So, we're just going to keep on pushing south for a bit to pick up the trade winds and then head off west at last. Next stop St Lucia!
