Astahaya - Day 5 - 6 Second log

st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) }The last two days gave us good weather but unstable winds. Yesterday was, however, a great day for the cruising shute. The balloon sail stood proudly the whole day and night. We took it down this morning as we changed course, this time directly west to St Lucia - 270 degrees! Funny, we did exactly what the old story says: “Sail south till the butter melts, then make a right turn and you end up in Caribbean.” Because of squalls and unsettled weather north of us, we decided when we took off from Las Palmas to set Sails south for Cap Verde. As we saw the islands on 18 degrees N we turned west. It gives a fantastic feeling to sail into warmer weather. Every day we experience the temperature climbing. And we do know we will reach a climax arriving. read more...

Astahaya - Day 13 - 14 forth log

What a nice sail! We have wind force 4 from north east and pleasant waves. Astahaya cuts through them in a steady rhythm. We feel safe here. It is midnight local time. The moon is blazing up a silver track from the bow and in our direction, just where we are aiming. This gives a feel of eternity and is good for the soul. This night we sail on the moon’s silver beam….When you sail like this – westward – on approximately 270 degrees, you sail into the sunsets until it is dark, and drag the sun up again with the stern the next morning. Every evening we sail after the setting sun as if we try to hold it back! Every evening!  Lars Christian and Tom are on watch for two hours. Last watch was kept by Jon and Åge. They had nothing but steady sails to report. Before them were Christian and. read more...
