Wild Goose - Heroes Aboard - May 7th

It's a beautiful today in many ways. The wind is from the NE and we are making our way slowly but happily toward Bermuda, our next stop. We have about 370 miles to go so we won't be there any time soon.

Our fuel leak from last night was a problem that changed our calculus for the rest of the trip, but our onboard diesel mechanic thought about it overnight. Linda found some spare fuel lines that we had that were the wrong size. Mike came up with a brilliant idea for splicing the larger fuel hose with a part of the injector fuel return line to make a replacement for the leaking hose. It took an hour or so of cutting and splicing, but in the end it worked. We started the engine and looked at it with different RPM levels, and there was no leaking fuel. Success. So in that story there are two heroes. Of course Mike for finding the problem and innovating to a solution, but also Linda who found the spare hose that solved the problem. Here inventory management has been superb. When we get to Bermuda we'll try to find hose to replace each of those return hoses.

Lisa's cooking has made her a hero. A while ago we had Bacon and Egg wraps, a wonderful creation. She still hasn't caught any fish, but we all still have hopes for a nice tuna for dinner. We'll report back on that.

We have been in VHF range and at times in sight of Outer Limits, the Hanz 37'. It's a big ocean, but nice to know there is someone within range if you need them. They are all doing well. Andrew, the young violinist wants more music.

We are looking at the weather and discussing our strategy after getting this forecast this morning from the ARC-Europe weather people:

WED (09)(MORN)(07LT): WINDS SE-S(135 - 180) 19-24 GUSTS 26KTS. SEAS 3-4 SWELLS NE-E 8-10FT (8SEC). SKIES PARTLY CLOUDY. ISOLATED SHWRS/SQUALLS*.

This indicates that we will have South or Southeast winds tomorrow, so we should all be fine making our way South of the Rhumb Line (look it up) to Bermuda. So with South and Southeast winds we could then have a beam reach in. It might not work out that way, but it gives us something to talk about.

Right now we are just glad to have a working engine (which we have no need for right now), be well fed, have good wind, and be on a sailboat sailing to Bermuda.
