Cassiopée W - Log for March 06, 2019 - 1st night on our way to the Marquesas

06 Mars 2019 - 1ère nuit en direction des Marquises

L’anxiété du départ s’est finalement levée. Le vent par contre reste calme et nous voyageons seulement avec un fragment de la grande voile et le spinnaker. À cause d’un courant favorable venant de l’est, le bateau réussit tout de même à atteindre une vitesse moyenne de 8 noeuds. Combien de jours passerons-nous en mer? Est- ce que les vents augmenteront? Quand? Quelle routine sera adoptée à bord? Tellement de questions passent et repassent dans ma tête. Vivre dans le moment présent, mantra qui doit être répété afin d’alléger l’amplitude de ce segment de 2980 mile nautiques. Après le rituel stew du premier soir, nous avons tous les trois pris une minute pour admirer la quantité incroyable d’étoiles dans le ciel. Ce soir, la voie lactée est bien apparente dans un ciel d’une grandeur infinie. Il s’agit là du plus long voyage en mer de notre périple. On peut se sentir vraiment petit face à autant de grandeur.


The anxiety related to the departure has finally vanished. The wind, for its part, remains moderate as we travel only with a fragment of the main sail and the asymmetric spinnaker. Because of a favourable currant coming from the east, the boat is still able to reach an average speed of 8 knots. How many days will we be at sea? Will the winds pick up in strength? If so, when? Which routine will be adopted onboard? So many questions come and go in my head. Live in the present, mantra that needs to be repeated to alleviate the amplitude of this segment of 2980 nautical miles. After the ritual stew of the first night at sea, the three of us took a minute to admire the incredible quantity of stars in the sky. Tonight the Milky Way is clearly visible in the infinite sky. This is the longest segment of our entire adventure at sea. One can really feel small in front of such immensity.
