Koala - Dec 3rd: Wind would be good

There is a continuing theme out here at the moment. The wind continues to be light, but reasonably steady from the NNE. We are making some progress with the cruising chute up today. Unfortunately, it is a bit temperamental in the light breeze and swell, so we (well, mainly Julia) are hand steering all the way, but anything to get some miles in. Yesterday, we managed about 120 from noon til noon, which is not bad considering, although a long way short of what we were hoping for by this stage of the journey.

Last night, I finally sussed out what to do with this piece of mystery cured meat that I chose when we were going round the super markets. I thought it was cured, but it was actually salted pork loin, so I cut some thin slices, boiled it for a bit to get rid of some salt, and the result was a little like back bacon with a chorizo tang. Julia thought it disgusting, but I quite liked it. Which is good. There is plenty more left!

There was a great show of shooting stars last night on the night shift, but strangely no phosphorescence to speak of in the water. We have not seen another boat for 2 days now.

Tonight on the gastronomic front, we have flat breads , courtesy of Julia (should stretch to some rolls for breakfast too), with dhall and some tomato and onion curry. Might even risk a beer with it. In preparation, I have taken advantage of the calm conditions to spring clean the cooker and galley. It is now gleaming. Should last an hour or two.

We have a waypoint in the GPS for just off the northern end of St Lucia. It is a very long way away a the moment. And it is very much best not to look at the ETA function when the wind drops as it stretches right out into 2014 at times! Still, just got to keep heading west. The wind has got to pick up some time right?!
