Its a strange day in Las Palmas. Around 190 ARC boats remain at their moorings, waiting for the postponed start planned for Tuesday. Final details for the start will be confirmed later today. At sea, the race fleet have spread right out, with Berenice (ITA) and The Kid (FRA) powering along at 9 knots. Vaquita (AUT) is furthest north, tucked under the shore of La Gomera, making 5 knots in 17 knots of breeze. Jolly Jellyfish (GBR) is in Tenerife, and some of the charter boats returned to Las Palmas yesterday. The crews on boats in Las Palmas are taking advantage of the lovely sunshine to catch up on sleep, read books and do late minute chores. The car rental and tourist offices remain open at the ARC Offices, and some people are using their extra day to get out and explore the island. Tuesday's Start Meetings are taking place today with the Port Authority to sort out the details for Tuesday's start. We will know more later this afternoon, when we will send updated information about the start location and time to all of the boats by email. This will also be broadcast on VHF Ch 11 and available for collection from the ARC Shop. The weather looks good for tomorrow, with 20 knot north easterlies forecast. The tradewinds are already well established, so the boats should have a relatively quick crossing to Saint Lucia.
